Vicarious trauma, burnout and other forms of secondary suffering are an ongoing threat to workers’ well-being and their capacity to work sustainably. Participants will have an overview and framework with which to better understand the complex issues arising in clinical work with refugees and survivors of torture. 2. Participants will understand self-care as an ethical requirement of work with refugees and survivors. 3. Participants will understand the benefits and risks of empathy in psychotherapy with refugees and survivors of torture. 4. Participants will learn one compassion-based, self-care skill. Easing the Pain with Amber Gray: 2 Day Workshop, May 4 & 5
DAY ONE: Introduces principles and concepts for working somatically with survivors. Drawing from the theoretical knowledge base and practitioner case material, physical and psychosocial practitioners will be provided with a foundation for how to work with the mind, body, soul connection. DAY TWO: Physical and psychosocial practitioners will extend their ability to use somatic approaches, with opportunities to develop skills collaboratively while learning from a world leader in the field.
