Trauma Resources International Support for Haiti

October 10, 2016

In the wake of devastation caused by Hurricane Matthew, Trauma Resources International (TRI) is once again mobilizing to support the ongoing work of FONDATION IDEO (The Foundation branch of The Institute for Personal and Organizational Development; “FI”). TRI and FI have collaborated since 2004, when we co-trained organizations throughout Haiti to provide psychosocial support to victims of organized violence. FI is Haiti’s preeminent provider of psychosocial and mental health services, and after the catastrophic earthquake of 2010 the government of Haiti requested that FI provide leadership to psychosocial efforts across the country. TRI partnered with FI and we raised over $15,000.00 to support their efforts.

Matthew destroyed most of this year’s crop and is reported to have destroyed 90% of Haiti’s southern provinces. Over 1000 people have been killed.

FI needs to raise $27,000 for their Psychological Assistance Program. I have attached a description of both Foundation IDEO and their program, written by their Administrative Director, Yannick Gaston Louis. It has been translated from French, so if anything is unclear, please ask me. I can personally and professionally endorse the work of FI. I trained their entire team, from 2010-2016, in mindfulness, somatic and dance movement therapy based approaches to working with trauma. We have co-trained; attended each other’s trainings; and worked alongside one another providing clinical services to survivors of violence, torture, and natural disasters. The psychologists, social workers and counsellors of FI work with the utmost dedication, consideration for their community, professionalism, respect for humanity, and love for their work. Please consider supporting this important, locally based non-governmental organization (“NGO”) to provide culturally relevant and sustainable services to the Haitian people affected by Hurricane Matthew.

Donations can be made directly to FI; they are a Haitian based NGO and therefore cannot provide you with a tax deduction letter. If you prefer to donate directly, email me for their account information. If you prefer to receive a tax deduction in the United States, you can donate directly to Trauma Resources International, a 501c.3, and 100% of your donation will be deposited into FI’s project account.

The Paypal donation button can be found to the top and the right of this page. Please include “Hurricane Matthew” in a note.

Haiti thanks you!

Sincerely,
Amber E. Gray, Director
